Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I have 3 very good runs.  On the last 3 days I've run over 18ks.  This might be the most I've run in a 3 day period.  I'm not feeling sore at all.  Sure, I wake up like an 80 year old man hobbling around but a small price to pay for how great I am feeling right now.  I should really get off the computer and go do some laundry because I am out of running gear and had to use one of my Manchester United kit to run in today.  I would prefer not to do that.  So I am off to wash my clothes.

Peace out!

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

Well.....I'm back.  I spent 4 days in Sydney and I loved every second of it (except for the part where I went to Bondi Beach and walked to North Bondi while Manchester United showed up and trained at South Bondi!) and I am currently trying to convince my wife that we need to move to Sydney.  I'll let you know how that goes.

My hotel was 1.5ks from the Sydney Opera House.  I managed to get 3 runs to the Opera House.  My first run to the Opera House was fantastic.  Its such an iconic building that actually running up the Opera House steps surreal.  I did have a Rocky moment when I finally got to the top steps and looked back over Sydney Harbour.....but I promise I didn't do the Rocky dance....nor was the Rocky theme song playing in my head.  In fact my playlist was perfect.  I picked nothing but U2 songs (no hits just deep cuts) and my run up the steps was done to Ultraviolet (light my way).

The run across the Harbour Bridge was equally surreal.  I got a little bit lost at first and spotted a fellow runner who just finished her run.  I asked her if this was the way to run over the Harbour Bridge?  She smiled and said yes it was.  I didn't rush and just took my time.  Over the Bridge and back to my hotel was 4ks.

My last run was the best one.  I ran over the Harbour Bridge and then back to the Hotel where I dropped off my jumper to the front desk (it was 7c when I started my run but it was a bad idea to wear the a jumper....it got way to warm quickly) and then it was off to the Opera House and back for a 6k run.

It was a run of a life time and if you ever get a chance to run in Sydney do yourself a favour and run to the Opera House.  It will change your life.

Half way through

I've done 3 runs since my last post.....but I don't want to talk about that right now.  I'm at the half way point.  I've reached 500ks this year.  That is more then I did all of last year.  That is quite a nice feeling.  And tomorrow I fly out to Sydney for a quick holiday and I get to run to the Sydney Opera House.  This is a dream come true.  I'm going to wake up early Friday morning and run from my hotel to the Sydney Opera House.

The reason I am going to Sydney is to see Manchester United play against the A-League All-starts.  I've always wanted to see Man U play and I finally get my chance.  Lots of pictures to come!

So.......how are you?

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I didn't get a chance to run on the weekend.  My calf muscle was quite sore.  It cramped on me a couple of times on Saturday.  I decided not to risk it and just rested for 2 days.  I think it was a smart move because I've got in some very good runs the last 2 days.  Yesterday I got in a quick dirty 5k and felt pretty good about it.  It's incredible what a stress relief my runs are.  I couldn't imagine not having this in my life.  I started this new job at work and the learning curve is pretty intense.  In fact I woke up at 1 am last night and couldn't fall back asleep for hours.

Today's run was a personal favourite.  I was so into my run that I didn't want to stop.  When I hit 6ks I just kept going and ran for another 300 meters before I realized I had to pick up Mrs Slowrunning from work.  I felt great.

Off day tomorrow.....back to running on Thursday.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run....sometimes with a dog)

It was a lovely Saturday today.  So lovely that Mrs Slowrunning decided to go for a swim.  I thought it would be a great idea if I took the Slowrunning Dog out for a run with me.  Now she is a tiny little thing....so I didn't think I could do 6 or 7ks.  I thought at most we could do 3ks.  The Slowrunning Dog was very excited to get going.....and that lasted for about 1 minute.  The rest of the time was spent peeing and shitting (the slowrunning dog not me) all over the place.  In total I was able to get 2ks in.....very very slowly.

I also completed a run yesterday that was a typical run for me.  Just under 6ks.  Managed 5ks under the 30 minute mark.  All very productive.  With the small little run today I've done over 20ks this week.  A solid result.  The good news is that I now can do a long run tomorrow to make up for my little run today.  I think I might try that simulated 90 minutes football run.  I'll let you know how that goes.

Stats:
Distance: 8.1ks (3.7 miles)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

The weather has brightened up.  It was a beautifully fantastic 21c tonight.  With not a worry in my head I was off running.  It wasn't my best run but it was ok.  I got 6ks in which I was pretty happy with.  I felt myself getting tired at the end and was pretty happy when it was over.  Mrs. Slowrunning got a swim in which she hasn't been trying to get in for weeks.  If the weather holds up tomorrow then she can get in another swim which means I can get in another 6k run.

I've been thinking of a way to re-stimulate my weekend runs.  Trying to run 8 to 10ks on the same track that I've been running for years is really boring.  I think its time to explore the neighbourhood.  So this what I'm going to try and do on Sunday.  I just Googled how many ks a soccer player runs in 90 minutes (length of a soccer/football game).  It looks like the average is between 10 and 12ks.  I might go for a 90 minute run but simulate a football game and see how many ks I can do.  An interesting thought.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I've been running but not updating my blog like I should.  This blog post is about 3 runs.  The 3 runs are a mixed bag.  My run today was fantastic.  It really should not have been.  I had a stressful day at work.  Every time I tried to leave work and go for my run I was delayed.  It was also raining pretty badly.  But I just felt compelled to run.  I was also amazed how much I loved running in the rain.  I was getting drenched, splashing through puddles with a big stupid smile on my face.  In fact all the other runners that ran past me had stupid grins on their faces.  Runners are a strange breed.

The other 2 runs where quite bland.  One of them was only a 4k run and I hit a wall and could not run another step.  That was rather disappointing.  I haven't hit a wall like that in a long time.  I hope I don't have many more of those days.
