Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I'm trying this new thing.  I'm sticking (for the moment) to my Nike free running shoes.  Nike free simulates the barefoot running experience.  Up until the last week I've been switching shoes (between my Nike free and my Adidas running shoe) because I was a little worried about having very little support on my runs.  So far there has not been a single problem.  I've run over 20ks with the Nike's and my legs feel good.  I will keep you posted on how I go. (also friend of the blog AP has also just bought a pair of Nike free.  I've asked for feedback on his new shoes)

My run today was great.  Mrs. Slowrunning didn't want to swim for very long so all I was going to do was 5ks.  Because I knew it would just be a 5k run I ran pretty hard.  My fastest k was completed in 5:24 and my 5k run was completed in 28:16 which is the best 5k run ever.  My previous best was 28:45.......so it was a very good day.

Stats:
Distance: 5.02ks (3.12 miles)
Total kilometres: 392.1k (243.6 miles)
Kilometres left: 617.9 k (384 miles)
Weight: 89.5 kg (197lbs)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I didn't get a chance to do my run yesterday.  So today was a must.  It wasn't looking promising.  It had rained all day and the skies were grey and depressing.  I tried not to think about it.  I concentrated on my work and let my run rest at the back of my head.

By the time I left work it wasn't looking any better.  Now it was dark and rainy.  I picked up Mrs. Slowrunning and started driving to the St. Lucia University Campus.  By the time I get out of the car it had stopped raining and I was able to get my run in.  It was a great run.  I really enjoyed this one.  I pretty much completed each kilometer at 5:45 and was disappointed to stop.  All in all I completed 5.75ks.

I've taken next Friday off work.  I'm going to drop Mrs. Slowrunning off at work and I am going to park my car near the river and go do a 10k run.  The longest I have run this year so far is 8 kilometers.  Be good to stretch it out and run 10.

Congrats to AP who is killing it in the Slowrunning group.  Over 70ks!!!!  Way to go AP.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

*I'm not sure how this has happened but I have some advertising on my blog.  I'm really sorry about that.  I will try to get that fixed*

I have completed 2 runs since my last post.  I set a personal record on the first run.  The one thing I was trying to overcome was my slow starts.  My first k is always my slowest.  I figured if I kept it under 6 minutes I would be able to finish my 5k run in under 30 minutes without having to run my guts out for the last kilometer.  I felt great while I was running.  In fact I completed my first k in 5:49 and kept it up from there.  This run was my fastest 5ks ever at 28:44 lets hope it gets better from here.

My second run was not as good.  I completed the 5ks in under 30 minutes but it took me awhile to get going.  In total I got a 6k run in and I am totally pain free.  I still have not attempted any long runs.  Will have to do something about that.

Stats:

Distance: 12.92ks (8.03 miles)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I got a run in today.  For a while there it wasn't looking like that was going to happen.  Work was crazy.  I didn't think I was ever going to leave.  But luckily for me I found a window and got out of there.  I picked up Mrs. Slowrunning and took her to the St. Lucia pool.  While she was elegantly swimming 44 laps I was running 6.44 ks.  I managed to complete the whole run in 38:04 and finished my 5k run in 29:25.  One of my faster runs of the year.

MiCoach have this new feature on the app.  It takes a look at your run and calculates how long it would take to run 10ks, half and full marathons.  I will include the results in this blog.

I was going to run with VH tonight but I had to cancel due to the fact that I was going to leave work late.  We have scheduled a run for tomorrow.....fingers crossed that we can get one in.

According to miCoach my 10k run will be completed in 59:34, the half marathon run would be completed in 2:07:25 and a marathon would be completed in 4:18:17

Update on the slowrunning group.  I would like to welcome the 8th member to our group.  CBearonthefly.  Welcome and I hope you kick some ass.  There is a new MVP in our group.  AP has taken the lead with 51.51ks.  Way to go and keep it up.  Battlesausage has slipped into 2nd spot with 45.12ks.  I am in third with 34.18ks.  Sirmark and Bajarmusica are neck and neck in 4th and 5th with 28.61 and 28.3ks respectively.  KelKel is next with 15.6 and Darryn has some catching up to do at .54ks.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

My miCoach program stopped working.  I had to delete the app and download it again.  I had completed a 6k run that didn't get uploaded into the system.  That was disappointing.  It's just one of those things I guess.  I completed another 6k run on Saturday at the St. Lucia University campus.  Mrs. Slowrunning was slowswimming while I was running.

It was a great run actually.  It started off terribly.  My first k was one of the slowest I've ever done.  My legs felt very heavy and tired.  After the first k was done I started to loosen up and I felt great.  It was a good solid run after that. I felt like I could run forever (well.....maybe not forever)

I have not run since Saturday.  My run yesterday got squashed due to work commitments.  I've been training for over 3 months and the program that I have been training has just gone live.  That means I'm going to have to be available much more over the next few days.  In fact the staff have been given my mobile number and have been instructed to call me day or night if there is a problem with the system (our company runs 24 hours a day).  So that should be interesting.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

Well, this is my 3rd day running.  I've done about 18ks so far this week.  I feel great!  I'm planning another run tomorrow after work and I am going to try and do 7ks.  I'm not sure if I have ever run these many kilometers in a 4 day period.

At work today I had a great discussion with some visitors to our business.  We were discussing on how much we love running.  It really is great when you are able to have chats about running goals and some of our achievements.....yeah I guess I am now that guy.

A reader of the blog (Andrew from Canada) had a question for my running partner VH.  Who is Alex Lloyd.  When I asked VH this question she responded with........lets just say it was an interesting response.  After she thought about it for a few seconds she asked that our reader (Andrew from Canada) she go to Alex Lloyds website.

Brisbane to the Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I met up with VH for our weekly 5k run.  I hadn't seen VH for a few weeks so it was nice to catch up.  Today was less about running and more about talking and finding out what has been going on in our lives.  It was an wonderfully cool night to run.  It really is the best time to run.  20c and running under the stars is about the best thing in the world.  VH is worried about the weather getting colder but as I told her....all she needs is a thick pair of socks.

In total we ran 5.12ks.....very very slowly.  We did manage to run half a kilometer but today was very much a social run.  I look forward to next weeks run.  I also got a message from KW to let me know she is back running.  Way to go KW.  Keep it up!

*update*  VH's playlist.
Alex Lloyd - green
Alexisonfire - born and raised
Amy winehouse - back to black
Athlete - tourist
Ben lee - cigarettes will kill you
Benjamin gibbard - choir vandals
Bjork - bachelorette
The black keys - run right back
Blind melon - no rain
Damn wells - electric harmony
Daughtry - it's not over
Hot chip - and I was a boy from school
Pierce the veil - she sings in the morning
Simple minds - don't you forget about me

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run 34% done)

This post is a few days over due.  I didn't do any running over the weekend.  I could list the litany of excuses but lets not play that game.  I just didn't run.  Full stop.

I did get a run in today.  Felt great to get out there again.  I dropped off Mrs. Slowrunning at the pool and I hit the running path.  I took my time and the only thing I worried about was doing the distance.  In the end I completed just under 6ks.

My run on Friday was similar.  Completed 5.23ks.  Surprisingly I'm very close to being at my kilometer goal.  By the 15th I need to be at 350 kilometres. Currently I'm sitting at 344.76ks.  Tomorrow I'm doing a run with VH and if we do at least 5.24ks I'll be right on my annual target.

Stats:
Distance: 10.91ks (6.8 miles)
Total kilometres: 344.76k (214.2 miles)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

My running session with VH had to be cancelled yesterday.  I ended up getting off work very early and had no reason to stick around so I drove home.  I took a nap, got up....and went for a run.  I couldn't bring myself to run around the lake again.  I wanted to take a different path.  The one I tried last night was really a lot of fun.  It didn't have any big hills but it did have some pretty good inclines.  I think I will keep that run as my plan b.

My time was nothing special.  Finished over the 30 minutes for 5k.  The reason for this is a very slow start and the new running path sends me across some roads and I had to wait a few seconds to make sure it was safe to cross.  I'm hoping the next time I run it will be quicker.

A few weeks ago I downloaded an app called my fitness pal.  I use it to calculate my food intake so I can see how many calories I am eating a day.  I have set the threshold to 1800 calories a day.  I've really enjoyed using it.  The app also has a bar code scanner so I can scan food and it will calculate all the calories for me.  Since I have been using it my weight has gone down.  The weight kept fluctuating around 91 +(201 lbs)  kilograms.  But since using this weight I'm down to 89.5kg (197lbs) and staying there.  The longer I use it I can see the weight continuing to come off.  As you can see from the picture below there is a nice downward trend.

Stats:

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run 32% done)

I was suposed to go for a run last night.  I had it teed up that my wife was going to go swimming and while she was doing that I was going to put in 6ks.  When I picked her up she wasn't feel too well and just wanted to go home.  By the time we fought our way through traffic and got home it was quite dark and it would not have been safe to run.  Not that I feared people jumping out of bushes yelling booga booga.  I could not see the foot path very well and I didn't want to possibly injure myself......the problem with that is now I had to set my alarm for 5:45 am and go for a run.

As the weather gets cool running in the morning is great.  16c at 6:00 am.  Perfect.  I manged to finish 5ks in 29:19 which I was really happy with.  I started off slowly but gained speed as I went.  There were quite a few people running and walking around the lake at 6:00 am.  That was inspiring.

Congrats to KelKel who now sits 3rd in the Slowrunning group.  Awesome work.  BattleSausage still sits in first place with 58.61ks.  I'm in second with 42.43ks.  Tomorrow I get to run with VH.  I think I'm getting off work a little bit earlier so I hope by 4 or 4:30 we are hitting the road.  We have been doing 5ks but tomorrow lets see if we can push that a little bit and go for 6ks.  I'm sure we can do it.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

Where to begin with this post.  I'm sorry I haven't written for a few days.  My WiFi broke at home so I was not able to update the blog for a few days.  But that has now been all fixed.  Also I have been having some car trouble and waiting to hear back about parts and how much that will cost.  So fingers crossed that the car wont cost very much.

Since my last post I was able to get 2 runs in.  One run was my usual run in St. Lucia along the Brisbane river.  My second run was with Mrs. Slowrunning and the slowrunning dog Polly.  Both runs were fun.  One run was 5.6ks and the second run was just shy of 2ks.  Mrs. Slowrunning is getting better.  She is running too fast and I have to get her to slow down so that she can run for longer distances.

I'm going for a run this evening.....as long as the weather holds out.  I see some black rain clouds starting to gather.  This week is going to be one busy week.  Both with running and my Photography.  I'm running today and Wednesday with VH.  Thursday I'm going to photograph Moon by the Australian Voices.  I took shots of the rehearsal a few days ago.  To see pictures click on this link.  Sunday I'm going to hangout with the Brisbane Manchester United Supporters Club.  The Premier League Trophy will be presented that night and I'm going to take pictures of the night.  I hope to get a run or two in between the photography gigs.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

My wireless router has decided to give up the ghost so this post is coming a day late.  I am hoping to have it fixed by the weekend.....if the repair man decides to come and fix it.  Fingers crossed.

Now that Mrs. Slowrunning is feeling better she is starting to swim again.  This means that when she swims I can run.  That is exactly what happened last night.  I must admit that running under the stars is quite an amazing feeling.  If you have ever visited Australia you will know that there is very little light pollution (compared to N. America at least) and every so often I'll look up and get caught off guard at the spectacular view.

It was a fine run yesterday.  I completed 5.3ks but felt I could have run forever.  I am finding that I am starting quite slow and I pick up my pace after each K.  By the end of the run I was almost sprinting.  I must look like a maniac sprinting with a big stupid grin on my face.  I guess its a good thing that I am running at night.

My next run wont be till Saturday.  I'm taking today off as a rest day and tomorrow night I'm going to take pictures for the Anywhere festival.  The show I'm taking pictures for is Moon - Presented by The Australia Voices. I'm very excited about this oppurtunity.
