Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

It has taken me a while to write this post.  This is actually 2 posts.  I went for a run last week and then, the rains opened up and washed out all running hopes.....well not exactly.  I was ready for a run after work yesterday.....but I forgot my running shorts.  I can't run in my work pants so that run got washed out.

My run last week was interesting.  I had a stressful day at work and was very much looking for my run.  The first thing I forgot was to turn on the GPS on my phone.  I ran 1k without it being recorded.  Oh well.  I stopped the run and started it again and this time made sure my GPS was on.  I tried something interesting.  As my running path is shared with lots and lots of people on bikes I decided to use these bikers as a training guide.  I waited for someone on a bike to pass me and I ran hard until someone on a bike passed me again and I would slow down until another bike passed me which made me run hard again.  I had some spells where my hard run would last a few minutes but the reverse was also true.  I'll have to try that again on a run soon.

My run today was OK.  I felt really tired for some reason.  I struggled at the end.  This was disappointing.  I was hoping for a much stronger run.  But the good news is that I completed the run without stopping.  My fitness continues to improve.

I'm going to fall short this month of my goal...but not far off.  I needed to run 160ks but I'm going to finish about 8ks short.  I'll have to make up those K's next month.  I'm looking forward to increasing my distance as I go.

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

The rain let up enough today for me to get a 5k run.  I mean it was still raining but not enough to keep me from running.  It was quite nice actually.  It was fantastical cool as well.  24c at 5pm today.  Perfect running temperature.

I increased my speed today.  I was testing to see if I could still slowdown and catch my breath when I needed.  So far so good.  I'm still not near the fitness level I was back in November but I'm not to far now.  I'm just a minute or so slower at the moment.  I predict by the end of the month (barring injury of sickness) I should be 30 minutes or under for my 5k runs.

Stats:

Stats:
Distance: 5.03 (3.22 miles)
Total kilometres: 142.37 (88.82miles)
Kilometres left: 867.63 (539.21 miles)

Total Calories burned: 13623

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

It really is amazing how quickly things become habitual.  For the longest time I used to be a morning runner.  But lately due to work commitments I have switched that up and starting running in the evening. This morning I had decided to run in the morning.  But I had no energy.  I could not muster the energy to get out there.  But by 5 pm tonight I was ready to go.  I dropped off my wife at the Jindalee swimming pool and went for a run.

I hadn't run in Jindalee before.  I wasn't sure what to expect.  The route was not very long and very hilly.  I had to work a lot harder then normally.  While I didn't complete the 6ks I worked really hard on my 4k run.

Stats:
Distance: 4.12k (2.9 miles)
Total kilometres: 137.34 (85.6miles)
Kilometres left: 872.66(542.58 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)
Calories burned: 394

Total Calories burned: 13150

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I'm a little stiff this morning (hey no dick jokes!) and I have ice packs on various parts of my body (I warned you!).   The good news.....as I sit here with ice packs on my body.....is that I have lined up 4 episodes of the Daily Show.  This makes me feel good.

I completed a 5k run yesterday.  I used my Adidas running shoes and there were no problems.  My times were OK.  I'm not running as quickly as I once was but this is by design.  I'm currently working on just getting my fitness back.  But I am going to start pushing to get better times soon.  One of the funny things about running after work is you get to see the same people on the run/bike path.  One bike rider has a picture of his family on his backpack and I've seen him and his family every run.  It's weird the little things you pick up on or look for during a run.

Stats:

Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Total kilometres: 133.22 (82.14miles)
Kilometres left: 876.78(544.14 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)
Calories burned: 478

Total Calories burned: 12756

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I'm over the fitness hump.  I am back to that point where I can slow my run down when I need to catch my breath.  I don't have to stop and walk for a little bit.  That is a great feeling to have.  I was doing a 6k run yesterday after work and just could feel that I could have gone longer.  My goal for this month is to complete a 10k run.  On Sunday I hope to run 7ks and increase it to 8ks not next Sunday and so on and so on.

I'm switching between my Nike's and Adidas runners.  On days that I am rested I'm using my Nike free but when I try to run back to back days I use my Adidas to give me that little bit of extra padding.  So far this has been working well and after running close to 100ks I'm still injury free.  I do feel like I should go for a massage soon to keep appearances.

Stats:

Distance: 5.5k (3.7 miles)
Total kilometres: 128.22 (79.11miles)
Kilometres left: 881.278(547.16 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)
Calories burned: 522

Total Calories burned: 12278

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I had a bit of a stressful day at work.  I found it interesting how I reacted to someone questioning my abilities.  All I could think of was getting rid of this stress by going for a run.  As a person who doesn't experience stress that often I was wondering if a run would help me.  It did to some degree.  I feel much better then I did but it wasn't a perfect cure.  To top it off while I was running I had accidentally turned off the GPS functionality on the MiCoach iPhone app.  While I completed a 4k run I only recorded stats for 2ks.  Live and learn.

I wilted in the heat this evening.  Also because of work I didn't get a chance to have a proper lunch.  Only armed with a coffee and a handful of almonds for energy and I didn't want to push myself too hard with that little amount of food.  The next run will be much better.

A strange thing happened over the weekend.  I got an email from an old friend.  I haven't talked to this friend in 10 or 15 years.  He is now living in New Zealand and coming to Brisbane in March.  It will be nice to catch up.

Stats:

Distance: 4k (2.8 miles)
Total kilometres: 122.72 (76.45miles)
Kilometres left: 887.28(553.14 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

For the second run in a row I was able to run 5ks without stopping.  This is an improvement over the last few weeks.  For awhile there I could only run 3ks (without stopping) and I am now up to 5.  I'll have to slowly increase over the next few weeks.  The problem is time.  I'm about to go into the intensive training at work which means I will be busy from 7:30 am to about 5:00 pm at night.  I can run after work obviously but the running path near work is only 5.5ks long.  I'll have to figure something out.

The weather has been much better.  My run today started at 8 am and it was on 22c.  The perfect running weather will start soon and I'll have a good 6 month window to get in as many kilometers as I can.  The good news is that there have been no injuries and I have not gotten sick.  Lets hope both of these continue.

Stats:

Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Total kilometres: 118.72 (73.14miles)
Kilometres left: 891.28(553.14 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)
Calories burned: 508

Total Calories burned: 11366

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

I had every intention to run yesterday.  My body (mostly my legs) were feeling quite stiff.  I decided to take a day off and not run.  I am very glad of this for my run today was the best one I have had this year.  It has taken me a long time to regain my fitness and I was starting to get a little worried.  But today I feel better.  I was able to run 5 and half K's without stopping.  I had not run an uninterrupted 5k this year.  I didn't think I was going to do that today.  I felt quite tired after just running 2 kilometers and almost turned around and just do 4ks but I pushed through and felt good afterwards.  I'm almost at that point where I can slow my run down a little bit to recover.  I had not been able to do that for a while now.  I hope this is a good sign for the future.  Next run will be Saturday.

This is how far I've gotten so far.

Stats:

Distance: 5.5k (3.7 miles)

Kilometres left: 896.3(556.1 miles)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

A quick 5k run after work felt fantastic.  The weather has been lovingly mild lately which makes for perfect running days.  The best part of the 5k was at the end.  As I was walking back to work a beautifully refreshing sun shower cooled me down.  I love sun showers and now that I live in the tropics I get to see them every so often.

Slowly my fitness is coming back.  I plan on another run tomorrow after work and if I continue running 20ks a week I should be back to where I was in late October.  After the run I managed a quick swim at the Jindalee pool.  Just a perfect day.

Stats:
Distance: 5.22k (3.4 miles)
Total kilometres: 108.22 (67.43miles)
Kilometres left: 901(559 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)

Brisbane to Sydney Opera House (virtual run)

My mother in law asked my wife and I to give her a hand at her house.  The last set of storms had brought down some tree branches in her yard.  We had to move it from the front yard to near the road so the city could come and collect all the green waste.  The branches were pretty heavy and I was worried that I would hurt my back or strain something.  Lucky for us there were no injuries had.  While we were driving home I was feeling OK and decided that I would go for a quick 3k run.  It was still light out and the temperature was perfect.

As I am slowly getting fitter am I able to run longer.  When I did the bridge to Brisbane I was able to run 8ks without a stop but I find I am having to take a bit of a break every couple of ks.  Yesterday I was able to stretch it out a little bit and went 2.8ks before I took a break (meaning I walked home from the 2.8 mark).  I used my old Adidas shoes for a change and that was alright.  I think I'll keep interchanging my shoes every couple of runs.

Stats:

Distance: 3k
Total kilometres: 103 (64miles)
Kilometres left: 907(563 miles)
Weight: 90.9kg (200lbs)
Calories burned: 377

Total Calories burned: 9855
